Is Integrative Medicine Right For Me?
If you answered YES to the questions above, integrative medicine might be right for you. Integrative medicine, or functional medicine, is the integration of conventional Western medicine and complementary medicine with the ultimate goals of finding the root cause of your illness, developing an individualized treatment plan, and optimizing your health and wellness. At Markham Integrative Medicine, Dr. Gannage will address the whole person, and focus on the prevention and treatment of chronic health conditions.
What can I expect from my first visit?
After your “meet and greet” and then during your initial consultation, either in clinic or virtually, Dr. Gannage will thoroughly review your medical history, and conduct a physical exam where appropriate. Blood work and specialty lab procedures may be ordered to facilitate your treatment plan. You will leave your first appointment with specific dietary changes and supplement recommendations, individualized to your needs according to the principles of Functional Medicine. Subsequent follow-up appointments are needed to review lab results, update your symptoms, monitor your progress and discuss next steps. For select patients, follow-up appointments can be conducted remotely by phone or videoconference.
For children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADD, ADHD and/or related disorders, the first consultation will be for the parents/guardians only, and will involve a thorough medical history as well as an overview of evidence-based biomedical treatment; introduction to Dr. Gannage’s approach; initiation of testing and extensive discussion of dietary recommendations.
Dr. Gannage works with functional medicine patients from across the Greater Toronto Area and other parts of Ontario, both in person and virtually.
